Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Wild Green Flame series about?
The Wild Green Flame series is an epic fantasy exploring a cosmic conflict between heaven and hell, disrupted by a third faction that upsets the balance. Drawing heavily on medieval influences across the world with a focus on Celtic, Dutch, Khmer, Mongol and Mali empires and civilisations. The series features complex magic systems, military tactics, found family themes, and character-driven storytelling.
What order should I read the Wild Green Flame series?
Check out our complete Reading Order guide for the full breakdown. New readers should start with Purgatory of the Ancients (Book 1), or grab the free Forest Stalker short story for a taste of the world first.
Is this grimdark fantasy?
Not quite. While the series features realistic consequences - good people die, and war takes its toll - the books have hopeful themes and satisfying endings. Think epic fantasy with real stakes rather than unrelenting bleakness. Characters face darkness but find connection, growth, and reasons to keep fighting.
Do I need to read the prequel first?
No! Battle of the Iron Gates enriches the backstory but isn't required. You can start with Purgatory of the Ancients and read the prequel anytime before or after the main series.
When will the Wild Green Flame series end?
The series will conclude with Book 4 (title to be determined). I'm committed to giving the story a complete and satisfying ending.
Are you working on anything else?
Yes! Between Wild Green Flame books, I've been developing an interconnected Roman-inspired series featuring gladiators with magic. The first book will be released between Book 3 and Book 4 of Wild Green Flame. Sign up for the newsletter for updates on both series.
When is the next book coming out?
Fall from Grace (Book 3) is currently in development. Sign up for the newsletter to be the first to know about release dates and new book announcements.
Where can I get the free Forest Stalker short story?
You can download Forest Stalker exclusively by clicking here. It's set after Battle of the Iron Gates and gives you a great introduction to the world.
Are these books standalone or do I need to read them in order?
The books follow a continuous story arc and are best read in order. Each book has its own arc with satisfying conclusions, but character development and plot threads carry through the series.
